Audio Post-Production and ADR in Victoria, BC

Dialogue that sounds like nobody ever replaced it. That’s the whole job of an ADR recording studio.

Sonic Forest Studios is an ADR recording studio handling dubbing, voice-over, and final mixing for film and television, from a certified Dolby Atmos facility on Vancouver Island. Whether you need three lines fixed on a local production or an entire feature dubbed into English, the workflow is already built and battle-tested. The same rooms have produced music mixes and masters with over 451 million streams and 2.6 billion video views behind them.

An ADR recording studio built for dubbing

The biggest test this work gets was the full English dub of Sugar Candy (Cukrkandl), a Czech-Slovak feature film for Attack Film SK. Over 1,100 cues across 16 characters, cast through a professional casting agency, recorded to picture, and delivered to the re-recording mixer in Bratislava. Every cue at 24-bit/48kHz, dry and unprocessed, ready for the final mix. That’s exactly the work this ADR recording studio was built for.

That project taught me what actually matters in ADR, and it’s not the microphone. It’s the cueing. I run Cue Pro for streamer-style automated cueing, which means talent sees their line, hears their beeps, and hits their sync without wasted takes. Sessions move fast, actors stay in performance mode instead of admin mode, and directors get more usable takes per hour.

For lip-sync dubbing specifically, I work from adapted scripts and record to the original picture at the correct frame rate, confirmed before a single cue rolls. Frame rate mistakes are the silent killer of dubbing projects. I check twice so nobody finds out in the final mix.

Film and TV mixing

The mix room was specced with help from Dolby’s own engineers, running 7.1.4 monitoring with 11 ADAM Audio S3H monitors. I mix in stereo, 5.1, 7.1, and Dolby Atmos, and it’s the first room on Vancouver Island built to monitor a theatrical Atmos mix properly.

For productions shooting on the island, that means your post doesn’t have to leave for Vancouver. Picture editors and directors can sit in the room, or attend remotely and hear the actual studio feed.

Voice-over recording

Commercial VO, narration, animation, documentary. Clean, quiet, directed sessions with your client on the line giving notes in real time. You get labeled, edited files, not a dump of raw takes.

Direct from anywhere

Directors and producers attend most of my sessions remotely. Using Audiomovers LISTENTO, you hear the studio feed live in broadcast quality from wherever you are, talk directly to talent between takes, and approve as we go. The feature dub I’m working on now is directed this way, with production on another continent. It works.

Pricing

Dubbing and ADR packages are quoted by project. Send me your cue count or your script and I’ll come back with a real number and a realistic timeline.

Frequently asked questions

Automated Dialogue Replacement. Re-recording dialogue in the studio when the production sound is unusable, or when lines change after the shoot. Despite the name, nothing about it is automated. It’s craft.

Yes. Casting coordination, lip-sync recording to adapted scripts, editing, and delivery to your re-recording mixer’s specs. I did exactly this for Sugar Candy, a Czech-Slovak feature dubbed into English.

Whatever your post pipeline needs, but my standard is 24-bit/48kHz BWF, dry and unprocessed, organized by character and cue, with sessions starting at 00:00:00:00. Your re-recording mixer will thank you.

Yes, and most do. You’ll hear the studio feed in real time and talk to talent between takes. All you need is a browser and headphones.

I work with a professional casting agency for larger projects and have a growing roster of Vancouver Island voice talent for smaller ones.

Yes, and also in 5.1 or stereo if that’s what your distribution actually requires. I’ll tell you honestly which format your release needs, because paying for an Atmos mix your platform can’t play helps nobody.
